Breastfeeding Fun Facts Friday

Amanda Patton

*Breastfeeding saves families $2,000-4,000 annually

*Producing breast milk consumes 25% of the body’s energy, the brain uses 20%

*Breastmilk’s nutritional profile changes as baby grows, and on a daily basis

*The breasts can detect baby’s body temperature and adjust as needed

*Breast SIZE does not matter!!! You make milk depending on your storage capacity! *A baby only removes about 67% of available milk. Babies eat until they are full not until the breasts are empty.

*Milk sprays out of many holes, not just one! There can be as few as 3 to as many as 20+ holes

*Current breastfeeding rates are 84% for initiation of breastfeeding, 47% exclusively breastfed at 3 months, 26% exclusively breastfed at 6 months, 58% not exclusively breastfed at 6 months, and 35% breastfed at one year.
